Many people think of early education as daycare, a place where their child will be safe, socialize with others and maybe learn some letters and numbers along the way. But did you know that 90% of a child’s brain develops from birth to age 5? Or that more than 1 million new neural connections are formed every second in the first few years of life?
The support your child receives during their first five years can impact future health, character development and academic success. That’s why it’s crucial to make the most of this time.
According to the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) at Rutgers University, studies have shown that children who participated in high-quality early education are generally more productive in school, work and society. They also tend to have higher levels of earning and education as well as fewer chronic health problems.
With all this potential in mind, what does high-quality early education and care look like? At Primrose Schools, we know that when it comes to teaching children, balance is key.
How Primrose brings balance to every day
Designing Our Curriculum:
We understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to early childhood education. That’s why our Balanced Learning® curriculum combines proven practices from early learning approaches like Montessori and Reggio with the latest research in early childhood development.
Understanding How Children Learn:
Every day, Primrose school teachers combine purposeful play with nurturing guidance to help tap into children’s natural learning processes. This allows for the right balance of teacher-guided and child-led play, which lets children make their own discoveries while a trained teacher encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Going Beyond Academics:
At Primrose, we believe who children become is as important as what they know. This idea comes to life in classrooms every day as teachers balance academic skills with character development. When children learn important concepts like compassion and generosity early, they’re more prepared to carry those traits into adulthood and grow into kind, caring people.
Partnering with Parents:
Every child is unique, so Primrose school teachers meet each child where they are by partnering with parents through screening tools like Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ®). Together, teachers and families can better identify each child’s strengths and opportunities, then teachers can provide personalized instruction that meets each child’s individual needs.
A child’s brain development within the first five years of life has a significant impact in the decades to follow, and Primrose can help you make the most of this important time. Choosing the right child care for your family is a big decision, so we’ve created a helpful resource that includes when to look, what to consider and what questions to ask.
